Q: WHAT MIGHT A FINISHED SMILING GOAT DO-IT-YOURSELF BOOK LOOK LIKE?

A: We're glad you asked! If you created an alphabet book it might look like this (3.5MB .pdf)

Q: DO I HAVE TO CREATE AN ACCOUNT TO USE YOUR SYSTEM?

A: Yes, we will use your information to create an account to store your photos and projects with. This will allow you to start a project, then come back later to finish it, or to make changes. We will also store your photos and projects for you. We only use your email address to send you notifications about projects you have created or .pdfs and prints that you have ordered.

Q: WHAT IS A .PDF?

A: .pdf stands for "Portable Document Format". It was created as an easy way for people to share and print documents, images, and more no matter what kind of computer they have. To view .pdf files all you need is a .pdf reader. You can get one for free at adobe's website. You can read more about .pdf files here.

Q: WHAT IF I FORGOT MY PASSWORD?

A: For your security our passwords are encrypted so nobody (not even us) can retrieve them. If you forget your password you can go to our forgot password page. Our system will generate a new, random password that you can use to access your account.

Q: I AM TRYING TO UPLOAD A FILE AND IT WON'T WORK.

A: First make sure that your image is ready for Smiling Goat. An image that is ready has a .jpg or .jpeg at the end of the file name and is smaller than 2MB in size. (see next question for details)

If you are on a dial-up modem it can literally take 10 minutes for a photo to upload so please be patient. If you continue to have trouble you may want to try a different photo to see if that one works.

Q: HOW DO I KNOW IF MY PHOTO IS READY FOR SMILING GOAT?

A: First you have to find the photos you want to use on your computer. Once you have:

In Windows:

In Macintosh:

If your photo does not meet these criteria you will have to use software on your computer to save the image to the correct size and format.

Q: I ADDED AN IMAGE OF MINE TO MY BOOK BUT I CAN'T SCALE IT LARGE ENOUGH. IS THIS RIGHT?

A: Each page you are laying out is designed for your printer (8.5x11"). If you have uploaded some very small pictures (i.e. from a cell phone) they may not be large enough to fill the page. This is the same situation you would encounter if you tried to print the same image from a photo program. Our system works best when using pictures from today's average 1.3 - 3 megapixel cameras when using the medium jpeg mode.

Q: I HAVE TRIED TO CREATE AN ACCOUNT/MAKE A BOOK/RESIZE A PHOTO/ETC. BUT CAN'T. WHAT'S WRONG?

A: To use some of the functionality of our system you will need to be using a newish operating system/web browser combo. Smiling Goat DIY has been tested to work in the following environments:

If you are having difficulties you may try one of the browsers above by clicking on it's name.

Q: HOW DO I GET MY PICTURES ON THE PAGE?

A: Using our system is a lot like using a program on your computer. Simply click (and hold) on a thumbnail image on the right of the page and drag it with the mouse over to the text "Drop photo here" and let go. You're now ready to move and resize it to fit!

Q: WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE A GOOD PRINTER?

A: Save your PDF on a CD or disk and head over to your nearest copy shop. Ask for their heaviest stock paper and about collating options.
